Women try tackling fears

Women’s Rugby held two taster sessions to give anybody interested a chance to give rugby a go. Unlike a lot of teams, Women’s Rugby do not hold ‘trials’ as such.

Hannah Fosbraey explained the inclusive atmosphere of the club, she said: “We know many girls have never had any experience of rugby before, and we like to give them the chance to try it. The turnout was brilliant, with lots of enthusiastic girls coming along.”

In the first session basic skills were taught through fun games such as rugby-netball and touch-rugby to help. Tackling, and how painless and safe it is with the right technique, was gone over in the second session. Many of the girls were surprised how easy and fun it could be, and many of the beginners were starting to show some real promise.

If anyone couldn’t make the taster sessions, we still welcome girls to join us all year round.
