On Wednesday 3 December, the men’s volleyball team played its last home match of the year against the University of Portsmouth. Both teams had remained undefeated after winning all their previous matches in the 2nd Division of the BUCS South Eastern Conference. As only one side is promoted every year to the 1st Division, this match was believed to be crucial. Fortunately our team managed to overpower its opponent 25-21, 25-13 and 25-15.

‘Thanks to this brilliant result Sussex are now alone at the top of the league’

Thanks to this brilliant result, Sussex are now alone at the top of the league. Despite the score, the first set was extremely even. However the team were able to dominate the rest of the match by using greater intelligence and a better individual technique on every ball, especially when it came to serving and hitting. Nonetheless credit must go to Portsmouth, as they tried to play their own match and showed very good defending skills throughout. In the end they were not quite good enough. It is worth highlighting the great team spirit that surrounds the Sussex group which makes training and every game extremely enjoyable.
