Getting involved in cricket at Sussex is the best thing I’ve done at Uni. The club is hugely welcoming and friendly; it takes a refreshing attitude to new members. We do not have ‘trials’ as we believe that anybody who is interested in the game should be given a chance to play the sport. The recent creation of a new third XI ensures that nobody misses out on competitive cricket. We have a number of keen members who had never played the game before but are now active playing members.

‘Freshers’ are treated as valuable members of the club from day one, each year a good number of ‘freshers’ are regulars in the first XI and gel brilliantly with existing members. We also have a vibrant and packed social calendar with events such as bowling, pub cricket, poker nights and quiz nights along with the usual Wednesday night social.

I have made a great number of friends through the cricket club who have helped to make my time at university as great as it has been. The friendly atmosphere of training sessions mixed with the competitive edge and desire to win shown on match days ensures that we retain one of the biggest member bases in the University.

All in all, anybody who has even the slightest interest in cricket should at least come along to one training session, I promise you, you will not remember why you didn’t join earlier.
