We’re getting an Oasis reunion before GTA 6?
Last week, rumours were circulating that the infamous brothers were planning a reunion. “Little by little”, these rumours gained traction, but the details were “Up in the Sky”, until Liam Gallagher’s set at the reading festival on August 25th, where he dedicated “Half the World Away” to ‘Noel fucking Gallagher’. If that wasn’t a hint enough, a single graphic appeared on the stage, giving a date and a time in an Oasis font. Finally, after days of speculation, they are definitely getting back together for a series of UK tour dates in the summer of 2025. Tickets are released at 9 am this Saturday (August 31st), except for the Dublin show, which will be at 8 am on the same day. Take out a second mortgage on the house because these tickets won’t be cheap.
The announcement was confirmed on each of their individual social media accounts as well as the shared Oasis page on Instagram, along with a black and white photograph of the two of them standing next to each other. That must’ve been a tense shoot.
History
These live shows will mark their first as a band since 2009, 16 years after Noel walked out on the band before a Paris festival appearance, but the brothers had been at odds long before. All hopes of them getting back together seemed to “Slide Away” over the years, but today our prayers were answered. Here’s hoping they perform on stage without fighting long enough for us to get what we paid for.
Excitement all round
The music community has certainly revelled in this news, with famous Oasis superfans Radio X claiming it is a “huge day for us”, and Brighton’s own Lime Garden offering to support. However, some might say it came at a bad time. I am mainly talking about Rizzle Kicks, who claims they are the “SECOND BIGGEST COMEBACK THIS WEEK” (source @rizzlekicks Instagram). Personally, both reunions mean about the same to me.
Speaking of support, many fans have been speculating about who could open for the band, with Fontaines DC and Kasabian as contenders. I’m putting my money on another reunion with The Stone Roses. Who better to open for Manchester’s most famous brothers than the band who influenced it all for them? Realistically, this is just me trying to justify my dream coming true. Some fans have even called for a reunion of The Smiths to kick things off, but personally, I think Morrissey is too pretentious for even the Gallaghers to book.
In a video they made announcing their return, Noel can be quoted “People will never, ever forget the way that made them feel”, and Liam followed by claiming “I’d do it all again, in a fucking heartbeat”. Honestly, they probably saw how well Blur did and fancied a piece of that. Be that as it may, you can’t deny the legacy of Oasis will “Live Forever”, and I can’t wait to sing (and cry) my heart out in the pit of Wembley Stadium (assuming I can get tickets, I will sell a kidney).
