An absolute master-class over The City of London University saw the Sussex 1st XI triumph to an astounding 13-0 win in the first round of the BUCS cup. Unhindered by a lengthy injury list, hat-tricks from left back Alex Kennewell and winger Tom Curran added to ninety minutes of unadulterated control. A disciplined back four, including Wright, Kolodynski, and Nicol, Nicol, were the foundations upon a lethal attacking system of 4-5-1.
The ruthless nature of Sussex in the final third formed the basis of such a goal-glut. Clinical strikes from Oji, Kolodynski  and Wright exhibited the kind of finishing required in England’s top flight leagues. A composed Willoughby  also netted two, darting past the City keeper for Sussex’s tenth – supplied by the selfless Greg Salmon at left wing.
Richard Lynch’s first clean sheet of the season rounded up a  clean-cut and professional performance, that demonstrated the bond growing within the Sussex camp.
With this in mind however, the pressures of university football may be getting to Owen Kessack, who was rested at half time due to potential cramp to the calf.
Brunel are next to host this confident Sussex side, who return their attention to striving for league title honours.  Unfortunately for Brunel, a fully fit Sussex squad should be recuperated by then.
