I feel that a serious discussion of the graduate tax should happen as soon as possible. It is NUS backed and yet there is no real debate over it. The Graduate tax is potentially dangerous scheme which is part of a whole ideology that unfortunately has been around for some time; the idea of it’s cheap now but ultimately far more expensive in the long run. I also maintain that it’s not a practical scheme and has not been very well thought out.
Several questions need to be answered; how long with the tax last, what will happen to those on extremely low income jobs; teachers, charity workers, nurses etc. How are they going to pay off the Graduate tax?
What makes me most mad about the graduate tax is that it is the Liberal Democrat excuse for getting out of their key issues. A liberal democrat policy has always been to scrap student tuition fees and this is just another cheap cop out from our wonderful coalition government!
