The deli counter at the back of Falmer Bar now serves hot and cold dishes including breakfast

As the new term unfolds, the students’ union proudly opens its doors to the recently refurbished Falmer Bar. The popular student and staff hang-out in Falmer House now welcomes its customers as early as 8am, serving a range of new and delicious foods, as well as Brighton’s much-loved Red Roaster coffee.
The updated menu is packed with fresh seasonal and locally-sourced produce, while the changes to the bar also include a larger seating area where the on-campus nightclub, the Cube, was located last year before it shut down.
“It’s much better to have more seats and tables in Falmer Bar especially at lunch time because it gets so packed!” said one Sussex student. “And I don’t know anyone who went to the Cube so that area was a bit of a waste of space.”
Breakfast will be served from the new deli counter (pictured below) located in the back of Falmer Bar, which serves a range of hot and cold foods including breakfast from 8am until 11am during the weekdays.
This new menu includes items such as scrambled eggs, garlic and parsley mushrooms, yoghurt and muesli and a fresh fruit salad, to name but a few.
“I think it’s such a good idea they’re opening earlier now,” said a third-year Sussex student. “Last year if I got to campus early I really wanted it to be open so I could buy some coffee to kick-start my morning. Now I can!”
Between midday and 9.30pm the bar will be open to serve lunch, snacks and dinner, boasting a wide variety of dishes such as paninis, burgers,
enchiladas, kedgeree, salads and curry.
A vegetarian student said: “Sometimes I find it hard to find food that suits my needs, but there’s such a big choice on the menu that it’s easy to find vegetarian food that’s also really tasty.”
The specials board will change daily but you can be sure to see popular plates such as lasagne, Thai green chicken curry, moussaka, fish pie and casseroles.
