A possible bus drivers’ strike is on the cards after a dispute over Union representation.
The GMB Union, has asked its 140 members within the Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company whether they would like to take strike action over what it sees as an unfair “deal” between the bus company and the Unite Union, which has around 700 members in the company.
GMB branch secretary, Mark Turner commented that “the company have refused to deal with us because Unite have said no”. The Managing Director for the bus company, Roger French, said matters concerning “conditions of service” are dealt with the “larger Union, Unite which we have always done for some time”.
This comes after Unite recently rejected amendments, including bringing a sickness policy within Acas guidelines. GMB had agreed, but the company did not go ahead with the changes. The strike would be implemented during rush hours.
