Sussex Islamic society is hosting Discover Islam week on campus, starting Monday 22nd to Friday 26th February. The society hopes the line-up of different events will allow students the opportunity to learn more about the religion that the media love to discuss. The Islamic society at Sussex (ISOC) will be presenting a wide variety of talks and fairs as well as a variety of food throughout the week.

A member of the society said: “Discover Islam is an opportunity for everyone, whether they are religious, Muslim, atheist or agnostic, to learn more about Islam. Anyone interested can obtain answers to any question they might have and meet new people.” Islam is one of the fastest-growing religions in the world with over 1 billion followers.

Events will include an open day in the Mosque on Monday, an Islamic food lunch on Tuesday, a Hijab day on Wednesday as well as a talk about ‘Islam and Terrorism’  on Thursday amongst other things. The many talks over the course of the week will be given by guest speakers including a Muslim rapper aptly called Muslim Belal as well as the Brighton local mosque’s Imam.

Details can be found on fliers available on campus, on the Facebook group, Sussex Discover Islam Week 2010 and via e-mail at ussu_isoc@sussex.ac.uk.
