Golden Globe and Emmy awardwinning actor Martin Sheen is returning to university to obtain a Bachelor of the Arts degree. The West Wing and Apocalypse Now actor, 67, has enrolled at the National University of Ireland, Galway to study English Literature, Oceanography and Philosophy for one semester, making him the oldest graduate in the university’s 163-year history.
The actor “deliberately flunked” the university entrance exam when he was a teen, so that he could pursue an acting career, has stated that he has received no “proper education” since entering into show business. The activist, who has participated in many peace protests across the US, has a large network of family and friends in Ireland, due to his Irish mother and has dual Irish citizenship.
President of the University, O’Muircheataigh, stated that it was a “great privilege” to enrol the actor and that “he will fit right in”.
