Sunday 5 November Komedia will be hosting monthly stand-up comedy night Bent Double. The show runs every first Sunday of the month and consists of 2 acts, a headliner and the MC Zoe Lyons. Zoe opens the show by warming up the audience with her own hilarious stand-up before introducing the acts performing for the night. Bent Double is a gay-friendly night, described by Komedia as “an irreverent night of fun and frolics” – a perfect way of describing the feel of the show.

The comedians performing this upcoming Sunday will be Sarah Keyworth, Yuriko Kotani, and Paul Sinha as the headliner. Sarah Keyworth is a regular London circuit comedian who tells stories about growing up in Nottingham while delivering sharp one liners. She is also a Funny Women Awards runner up and is described as “Excellently deadpan” by Huffington Post. Yuriko Kotani is a UK-based Japanese comedian who has appeared on Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central and The Comedy Club on BBC Radio 4. As well as this, she won the BBC Radio New Comedy Award and was described as “one to watch” by Time Out in 2015. The headliner Paul Sinha is not just a comedian, but a doctor, broadcaster and quiz player. His comedy is known for revolving around his sexuality and ethnicity, and his heavy use of puns. He is best known for being a “chaser” on ITV’s game show The Chase. It certainly looks like it will be an interesting night of stand-up comedy from these 3 different comedians.

Not only do you have the show to enjoy, but Komedia has a lovely cabaret style layout with unreserved seating. There is also a bar to order drinks to enjoy while laughing and a snack menu. When buying tickets, you can get the side saver which includes the show and 3 side dishes for £24.50. Alternatively, if you have an NUS card or are under 26 you can get a well priced ticket at only £5.

The show does attract LGBTQ+ audience, but is open to anyone regardless. I’ve been to Bent Double before and highly recommend taking your friends for an alternative night out.

Bent Double will be showing at Komedia Brighton on Sunday 5 November at 7:30pm (doors 6:30pm).
