The University of Sussex Students’ Union has issued sanctions against the Men’s Rugby Club in response to the incident that took place on campus on the night of October 21st, in which a female student was sexually harassed.

Following the decision of the Activities Committee, which constitutes students elected to represent the Union’s clubs and societies alongside a number of full time elected officers, the Men’s Rugby Club has been suspended. This means that the club will not be able to play fixtures, practice, or have activities as a society.

The USSU has stated that, “the committee will review this decision in five weeks’ time. Further, we understand that the club is appealing the Committee’s decision. This appeal will be considered at the next weekly meeting of the Activities Committee.”

Expressing their position, the USSU has condemned “all instances of sexual harassment and violence” as “an extremely serious matter.”
