A ‘major incident’ has been declared after two buses crashed in Brighton this morning. At least 23 people have been injured in the crash, including two in a life-threatening condition, which took place at 09:20 today on Queen’s Road.
One of those in a life-threatening condition is the driver of the second bus, who was reportedly trapped in his cab after the crash.
A total of 13 people have been admitted to hospital with another eight people also reported to have suffered minor injuries.
There have also been reports of a number of bystanders being stuck in shops along North Street due to the police cordon
Emergency services are on the scene, with six ambulances and an air ambulance in attendance. A triage centre for those wounded by the crash has also been set up near Brighton Station.
Local MP Caroline Lucas praised the speed of the emergency response, tweeting: “My thoughts are with those involved in the bus collision in Brighton.”
One Sussex student who saw the incident said: “I saw police tape and people standing around looking confused. It took place on the corner by the clock tower, where the buses always seem like they’re going too fast.”
Sussex Police have advised the public to stay away from the city centre following the crash, with roads in Brighton expected to be closed until at least 3pm.
