Following a successful and eventful appearance at Montreux Jazz Festival last summer Sussex Universities Big Band (SUBB) took East Slope bar by storm in its first appearance of the term on Friday 4th December.

The band entertained an audience at maximum capacity with a mixed repertoire of classic jazz favourites and popular contemporary tunes with a few Christmas hits to round off the seasonal spirit.

Complementing the band were the vocal talents of our four fantastic singers Evelyn Kone, Lucy Wharton, Mike Gray and Ollie Tycer singing such hits as New York, New York (Ollie), Crazy in Love (Evelyn) and Hit the road Jack (Mike and Lucy) with Paul Hunter leading the band as its Musical Director.

We were met with a wonderful crowd and enjoyed every second we performed with many in the band calling it as one of the best performances we’d done.

Signing off the year, the group swung one last time in huge collaboration with Show Choir, Folk, and Ukulele societies to light a fire in everyone’s kindled Christmas spirits.
