The surprising news was released via the venue’s Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon, announcing:

“There are far too many issues that cannot be resolved to make carrying on viable”

Hundreds of dejected comments flooded the post.

With an intimate basement space providing a perfect spot for a lower key as well as the more established artists, and a vibrant upstairs bar, Sticky Mike’s has been a staple in all local music fans’ favourite venues. Late night live music events, such as ‘Busy Doing Nothing’ have also provided a unique service in the city, with headbanging lineups playing into the trashy early hours.

Hopefully, there is light at the end of the tunnel, with Sticky’s owners also holding control over the increasingly popular East Street Tap, as well as The Hope and Ruin. Perhaps we will see further movements with these places in the near future.

However, it’s difficult to ignore that, in a city already fairly light on charming small venues, it is seriously disappointing to see a place like this close. Let’s make the most of the time we have left of Sticky’s, and keep our fingers crossed that as this door closes, another one will open.

In the meantime, you can find Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar at 9-12 Middle Street, Brighton BN1 1AL
