Together The People is back for a second year and they’re promising a festival bigger and better than the previous one. The 5,000 capacity event held in Preston Park, Brighton on 3rd and 4th September boasts a line-up of impressive names and local up and coming artists; there’s definitely something for everyone at this family-friendly festival.
Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys fame will top the bill on the first day of the event and perform his classic album ‘Pet Sounds’. As an album that rewrote all the rules of what a record could and should be, it has been said that “‘Pet Sounds’ was a musical canvas as boundless as Brian’s heart.” We can’t wait to see him bring his captivating live show to the heart of Brighton.
Brighton’s very own Fickle Friends are due to put in a performance too. The five-piece are currently in California working on their eagerly-anticipated debut album, and have released their latest single ‘Cry Baby’ to tide us all over for the time being. Expect 80s vibes and glitzy synths galore when they take to the stage.
Proving that Brighton is very much the hub of live music in the UK will be indie rock/dream pop four piece SEATS. With obvious influences from Foals in their sound, the group will showcase their first release ‘Danky Dank’ live in Preston Park.
Other hotly tipped acts to appear across the weekend include the promising Egyptian Blue with their unique and up-beat brand of fuzz rock. Garage rock trio, Atlas Wynd will also bring with them a sound so grungey it will knock you to the back of the field. If that doesn’t sound like your thing, be sure to check out Voodoo & The Crypts with their catchy hooks, shimmering guitar lines and blissed out rhythms.
Britpop legends Suede will tackle the headline slot on the second and last day of the festival. The band are said to have instigated an era of music named ‘Britpop’ in the late 1990s with their debut single ‘The Drowners’ in 1992. Following on from their glory years, the band returned to London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2010 and released another album in 2013, setting them up for a stellar performance on the main stage; make sure you’re down the front on Sunday night.
The Horrors will also play at the festival and whilst they’ve always been somewhat hard to define, we’d say their music is slightly darker at the core and boasts psychedelic tones throughout.
Although, if you’re looking for a band with slightly more upbeat numbers, look no further than The Island Club. The band create dance infused pop rock that will have you hitting repeat in seconds. They’re on a rapid rise at the moment, so make sure you catch their set at the festival.
