Post-rock guitars combined with dark, powerful vocals create the simplistic but time-tested formula of Sharon Van Etten’s music. Her most recent and first self-produced album, Are We There, was received with much critical acclaim earlier this year, featuring the brooding and vicious single ‘Your Love is Killing Me’ and the stark, piano driven ‘I Love You But I’m Lost’. Songs from her earlier albums will also pull in crowds, particularly Tramp, an album that was produced by the National’s Aaron Dessner and voted Drowed in Sound’s favourite album of 2012. Van Etten will be gracing St. George’s Church in Kemp Town this Thursday, a fitting venue for the raw and intimate nature of this hauntingly beautiful songwriter.
