Travel through Brighton has been disrupted this evening after half a mile of Lewes Road was shut off by Police due to an ongoing incident at Melbourne street.

The Police arrived at the scene at around 6pm closed the road between Elm Grove and Hillingdon Road.

Eyewitnesses near the incident on Lewes Road said that a man was on the roof of the former church.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police confirmed that the man was brought down and detained. The road was reopened at 9pm.

Heavy congestion was present on Lewes Road earlier today due a major fuel leak at the BP petrol station.
