Two men sustained head injuries in an incident on East Slope bar on campus.

The fight took place on in the early of the morning of Saturday 27 November 2010. The disturbance led to the arrest of two men. They were bailed following the incident.

Police and paramedics quickly came to give assistance within ten minutes of the fight being reported by staff at East Slope bar and the security team on campus.

The University of Sussex’s security staff worked with the police and helped the arrest by watching the suspected men via CCTV as well as in person.
The men involved in the incident were contractors and no staff or students were involved. The university has said: “Just as we expect our staff and students to behave appropriately and respectively towards each other, so we expect the same of other people on campus.

This includes contractors with whom we have agreed codes of conduct.” The university further commented: “Incidents of this nature on campus are extremely rare.

In fact, we are not aware of any previous incidents of this kind involving contractors, hundreds of whom carry out their work on campus without incident every year.”
