The faces of Brighton and Hove have been crowned. One of the biggest model hunts in the South East has been back for a second year this weekend following a hugely successful event in 2009. This year was expected to be even bigger, and we were not disappointed – for the last six weeks talent scouts and representatives from Models 1 and SG Events have been scouring Brighton’s beautiful streets to see who’s got what it takes to succeed in the world of modelling.
This years event climaxed in a Grand Catwalk Finale last Saturday in Churchill Square. After a series of heats, a live show involving five walks and five costume changes and a final of ten gorgeous hopefuls, two winners emerged – Jodie Tucker, 17, from Portslade and Will Higgingson, 19, from Brighton. This lucky pair win a contract with agency Models 1. Last year’s male winner, Alex Smith, was discovered after being signed to Models 1, and now models alongside Eva Herzigova and Kate Moss.

It may seem odd in a small city that boasts two universities to praise a competition solely based on image and looks, yet all in all, the event generates a big crowd and, judging from the audience, a fun family day out. The atmosphere of the show is happy, energetic and not to be taken too seriously and provides a great opportunity for everyone involved. Each year Face of Brighton also showcases Brighton’s young stylists, photographers and choreographers of the future who have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to show off their talents working alongside top industry professionals, giving more of our cities creative youngsters a kick start in their chosen career.
