Plans for a temporary ice rink have been approved by Brighton and Hove City Council; it will open within the grounds of the Royal Pavilion, creating a significant number of seasonal jobs and providing much festive fun.

Set against a striking backdrop, this temporary treat is set to become extremely popular with Brighton families and students.
The winter project will create up to 150 holiday jobs, providing a much needed boost to the local economy during the busy Christmas shopping period.

The 700 sq m development  opens to the public from 13 November 2010 and will remain open  until 16 January 2011.
Opening hours will be between 10 am and 10.30 pm, with ticket costs estimated to reach up to £11 for adults. The rink will be able to accomodate up to 200 skaters at a time.

English Heritage had expressed concerns about the development, fearing that views of the iconic royal palace would be obstructed. The issue was settled as a balcony has been added to the plans, specifically designed to ensure the Pavilion can be viewed from rinkside.
A pre-school crèche and a restaurant and bar will service the site, and a beginner’s area and skate aids, will ensure that the facility can be enjoyed by people of all ages. These additions make it completely unique and separate from other ice rinks across the country.
