Talks to resolve the pensions dispute between university management and support staff have broken down. Technical staff held their third day of strike action last Thursday in response.

They are planning to hold a demonstration outside a university Council meeting this Thursday calling on Council to postpone its decision on the changes to the their pension scheme. The rally will take place at 1pm opposite the Thistle Hotel (near the Honey Club).

Tom Armour, branch chair of Unite said, “management will keep open the final salary scheme for academics and better paid managers whilst closing the pension scheme for new members of support staff.”

Around four hundred students voted to support the striking staff at the students’ union AGM, which coincided with last week’s strike. The motion, which was indicatively passed, called on students to take action in solidarity with the strikes.
