Brighton and Hove City Council are proposing to remove a key section of the Lewes Road cycle lane close to Sainsbury’s. The proposals have been put forward as part of the ‘Safe Routes to School Scheme’ and include plans to pave over a small part of the southbound cycle lane in order to put in place a new pedestrian crossing.

Brighton and Hove Friends of the Earth (BHFOE) group have strongly rejected the proposals, which they say potentially put cyclists at risk and will create a barrier along an important cycling lane connecting Brighton, two universities and the South Downs.

If students wish to voice their concern, Chris Todd from BHFOE encourages students to write to the Argus or directly to Brighton and Hove City Council.
